The Salkantay Trail – an unforgettable experience and the best alternative to the Inca Trail

DAY 1: Cusco – Mollepata – Soraypampa

You leave Cusco at 5 a.m. in a private vehicle along the River Apurimac. On the way to the village Mollepata (where the Salakantay-trekking starts) you can see beautiful small villages like Izcuchaca and Limatambo. About 9 a.m. you will arrive at the village Mollepata (nearly 3000 meters). After loading your baggage on the mules the Salkantay-adventure can begin. The first part of the trekking leads you to Cruz Pata. After the lunch and a short pause the tour to Soraypampa continues. At 5:30 p.m. the group arrives at Soraypampa – your first base camp. After having dinner you spend your first night in the tent.

Hiking time: about 7-8 hours
