The lesser visited Northern highlands of Peru hold a treasure trove of historical ruins and natural wonders just waiting to be visited. Travel is slow on the winding and sometimes potholed roads, but for the patient traveller, the rewards are high and plentiful – Pre-Colombian ruins matched in size and splendor only by Machu Picchu, ceremonial burial chambers on high cliffs marked by life-sized sarcophagi and the world’s third highest waterfall to name but a few.
